Thursday Recs

Another Thursday, another recs post!

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

I have been (slowly) reading my way through [queer mad feminist] scholar Jenna Reid's dissertation, Materializing a Mad Aesthetic Through the Making of Politicized Fibre Art (available to read for free at that link) and it's really 🤯. I've got a lot to think about my own scholarly and craft work.

A friend of mine is making TransArchive as a safe place to host all the material that the Trump regime are trying to memory hole. The creator is a trans woman who is highly technically skilled, so she's self-hosting the archive and setting up the entire system and architecture herself. I can absolutely vouch for her integrity, and although I can't directly assess the technical aspects of the site, it's hard to think of many people with stronger CVs (for anonymity I won't tell you the exact details but she's held very high level roles at companies and organizations you've heard of.) So the risk here is that she'll get burned out or otherwise become unavailable, but on the plus side the site isn't beholden to anyone, there is no company that can decide it's too politically dangerous to host trans related content. The archive is in the EU but it's able to move jurisdictions if that becomes necessary.
