Thursday Recs

Ack, I almost missed it again! Here's this week's Thursday Recs post! (I really gotta set up scheduled posts-by-email...)

Today I am reccing the artist Greer Stothers, who you may recognize from [tumblr.com profile] pangur-and-grim. Greer uses they/them pronouns and (IIRC) dates people of multiple genders, and got some major hate some years back for being openly supportive of aro and ace people. Right now their store mostly has pins and stickers, with a few risograph prints (usually paleoart) and other miscellaneous bits and bobs. Some of their art features animals with irregular physiology, and some of it features dead animals, but it's all pretty cool stuff.

How about you? Do you have a rec for this week? Remember, self-recs and fandom stuff are welcome!

This week, I am recommending:
- The Steve Hayes YouTube channel, where a cheerful gay man in his 60's recommends movies and gives very old movie gossip.
- "Canvas-Wax-Moon", a story about an abortion in a utopian future by Ailbhe Pascal (they/them, queer).

I recently received some pins from Greer. They were well made and depict a niche special interest (tattoos on ice mummies).

I love all of their pins! I'm winding up with... more of a collection that I probably should. I need to find a way to display them!

Yeah, I'm very afraid of losing them! I have a few of them on a piece of fabric tacked to my wall, but I ran out of room pretty quickly, and now I have a ton that I don't know what to do with!

Locking pin backs are great. My sister got me some for xmas a few years ago for cheap on ebay.

I've seen locking pin backs a few times! They seem great - I should invest in some.

I buy shadow boxes from Michael's and take the glass out. The Belmont ones come as 9x9 or 11x14 and have an unbleached linen fabric back. They're not super expensive, look nice, come in four or five colors, and go on sale often. You can fit a bunch of pins in one. They're still accessible if you want to wear them.

Ooh, that's a great idea!

I'd seen someone creating kind of their own display with fabric-covered board inside a frame, but that keeps sounding like a lot of steps for me to sort out, haha. But a pre-made shadow box sounds perfect for displaying! I'll have to take a look at those and aim for sometime they're on sale!
