You. Me. Friends?
Jan. 9th, 2020 04:47 pmName: Morcalivan, Cali, Cal. It seems to be getting shorter every decade.
Age: recently 37 *sigh* (or as I like to say: I turned 25 for the 12th time)
Pronouns: she/her (I have often thought I'd much prefer to be a dude, but not so much to actually idenfity as one)
Identities: Biromantic (could be panromantic, I don't really care too much). Ace/Demisexual (I guess). INTP (for those who believe in that sort of thing). Introvert. Geek. Gamer (though not recently). Hella social anxiety. Avoidant Personality Disorder. Potentially Schizotypal. Little bit obsessive (but not compulsive). Big time potty mouth. Procrastinator.

LindieDagenhart | I seem to have 3 Instagram accounts, all with different interests, but eh, don't use them enough to bother linking.
My interests:
Urban/modern fantasy. TV shows that break my heart. Queer storylines (of which there are too few). The paranormal/occult. Cats. Every so often a bit of SciFi or high fantasy. Horror movies/stories. Musical theatre (leaning more towards the comedic stuff and less towards the tragedy and Serious Drama) - current big loves are Something Rotten, the Beetlejuice Musical and everything created by Starkid (of which Holy Musical B@man is bae). Pretty people nekkid. Reading. Binging shows. Arts and crafts (polymer clay, art journaling, acrylic painting, diamond painting). Bullet journaling. Losing time on Youtube. Dungeons and Dragons! Board games. Roleplaying (though it has been ages). Rock music.
Random babble because I always feel the need to explain myself:
I am new to DW, and am feeling incredibly lonely and isolated, so I am hoping I might find a friend or two. I joined this week, as it was a bit of a requirement for this writing challenge I am taking part in. My social media presence has been fairly low-key the last few years. I have a (recently wiped and restarted) Tumblr that I occassionally reblog fannish stuff on, but rarely anything personal. I have a Twitter under my pen name... that I use once every couple of months.
I used to be kinda (but possibly not really) active on LiveJournal. Up until 2011. Then I kind of became a hermit and subsequently lost touch with everyone I cared about. I did the self hosted Wordpress blog for a while. But I have the attention span of a dust bunny in a breeze.
I am a writer. Currently doing dark fantasy YA with a demisexual male protagonist. This story has been my obsession for SO MANY years. I am on draft #5 with it. The only thing that has captured my interest for this long in my entire life. It is potentially too gory for YA, in that it features blood magic heavily and there is also some off screen cannibalism (more of the not undead but kind of a zombie type, not so much the Hannibal Lecture type).
Aside from the above, I have written and trunked a number of other original fiction stories. I have also written some fanfic in my younger days (for about 2 years). I do occassionally still read fanfic (a lot more lately than for the last couple of years). Fandoms that catch my eye when there is new fic: The Magicians, The Witcher, Harry Potter. Generally the higher rated ones, if you know what I'm saying <insert awkward wink>. The longer the better, anything under 5k is too short for me. I quite enjoy fluff in my fanfic. I guess because the purpose of fanfic to me is to soothe the hurts caused by the source material.
I am also a wannabe artist. Not particularly good at it, and too lazy to put in the time to get better. I did do a short stint of a webcomic. Which went the way of the short attention span.
Currently studying software development. Doing a piss poor job. I haven't had to study since 2000 and my brain is struggling to retain information.

Date: 2020-01-09 07:16 pm (UTC)HP! I was actually very late into this fandom. Around Half Blood Prince's release, I think. I started writing a fic once, but only got about 5 pages in. Alas. Creature!fic are my favourite. I try not to follow anything JKR releases on Twitter or wherever. I would rather not know anything that will make me grumpy.
The Witcher I was quiet pleased with. Not all of it, certainly. The lack of apology, being one of them. Still, I enjoyed the grunts and fucks. Think I need to go back and play the game some.

Date: 2020-01-11 09:36 pm (UTC)sounds like the smart thing to do. i'm very much done with JKR (and have been for a while), and feel very much "the author is dead" about harry potter tbh xD
i really enjoy the worldbuilding in the witcher. but, yeah, there are some less enjoyable things about the game.

Date: 2020-01-09 09:38 pm (UTC)I suppose I’d like to know what all the fuss is about. Fifty Million Frenchmen Can’t Be Wrong, as a 1920s song put it; but the way I put it to myself, last year, is that I feel like I’m living in a world where assembling IKEA furniture is considered the highest pleasure known to humans and/or a vice. There are centuries of songs and poetry about it, some of which I enjoy. I like furniture. I like looking at interior design magazines and IKEA catalogues. But any time I actually try to assemble some shelving, at best it just feels like assembling some shelving; and more often it’s awkward and painful and the parts won’t fit together like the instructions say they should, and I’m afraid I’m going to cause the other person to throw his back out.
As to the rest of my personality, I’m also moon_custafer on AO3, and I’ve got the first draft of a novel at the “trying to break 50,000 words” stage (it’s a bit over 48,00 with the storyline complete, if a little rushed towards the end – fixing that will probably fix the word count.) It’s a fantasy/possibly mild horror tale set in 1950 on Long Island. The other problem is that the weirdness doesn’t start until several chapters in, and I’m worried fantasy fans will give up before then, and realistic-midcentury-domestic-drama fans will be really confused when things start to veer off the map.

Date: 2020-01-10 01:02 am (UTC)I can sympathize with being low-key on social media. I've tried to keep up, but I just don't have the attention span these days.
Good luck with your studies!
