It has been entirely too long since I did a giveaway. Let's fix that!

I'll be giving away a total of ten copies of [tumblr.com profile] effiecalvin's The Queen of Ieflaria, the first book in her Tales of Inthya romantic fantasy series; I'm giving away three (3) here, and seven (7) on Tumblr. You can find more information about the book over here, from a super fun infographic made by the author (image description available in the most recent reblog), and/or you can look under the cut for some of the cool things that are in it: Cool things in The Queen of Ieflaria )

I'm willing to go into more depth about just about anything if you have any concerns. I've also done my best to list the content warnings for the book (to the best of my memory) in the tags.

Giveaway Rules:

1) You must be a member of the [community profile] queerly_beloved community
2) Comment on this post to enter
3) You can also Like the Tumblr post to enter (link will go up shortly)
4) You must have a working e-mail you're willing to share with me (preferably via private message, but I'm willing to work with you)
5) Only one entry per person per site (Dreamwidth or Tumblr)
6) I will select the winners via random number generator for Queerly Beloved first, and then Tumblr
7) You can enter the giveaway at both posts, but you can only win once; this means that, if you win the book here, you'll be out of the running at Tumblr
8) Giveaway winners will be drawn on November 2nd, 2020

If you have any questions, please ask them in this post, and I'll do my best to clear things up!

Want to start reading this series right now but also want to wait to see if you win a copy of the first book? Good news! The second book in the series, Daughter of the Sun, can be read on its own as well! They each work as a great introduction to the series, but starting in the third, they start involving more characters from previous books, and it's more helpful to read them first.

Edit: Nov 2nd, 2020: Okay, I am not picking just three people out of four. I went and bought an extra copy; everybody wins!

A kind soul on Tumblr has offered to buy folks copies of [tumblr.com profile] shiraglassman's books! Folks who have been here a while may remember my June giveaway of Knit One, Girl Two, Shira's incredibly popular (and super-duper adorable) contemporary romance between two Jewish women; now you have a chance to get not only a free copy of that, but of everything else in Shira Glassman's catalogue!

If you want to know about any of her titles, just comment here and I can gush at you for a while 😉 Her most recent release is "Gifts of Spring", a short romance between a trans woman mage and a Jewish acrobat, previously available in (IIRC) the Queerly Loving anthology.

Check out the details right over here. If you have any trouble requesting things from that generous soul, let me know and I'll do my best to help get things sorted!

Hello again, everyone! This is just a reminder that all the winners for Queerly Beloved's first giveaway have been drawn; I'm pretty sure I've heard back from everyone by now, and made sure everyone has gotten their prizes, but I'll admit I may have lost track a bit on the Knit One, Girl Two giveaway, what with one thing and another. If you entered the K1G2 giveaway and haven't gotten a copy yet, please check your Dreamwidth inbox! There may be a message from me waiting for you there.

Speaking of Knit One, Girl Two, some of you may already know this, but Clara the yarn dyer from the story was inspired by a real person: Caitlin of String Theory Colorworks. If reading the story has given you any urge to do yarncraft, be sure to check out the store! Special mention goes to the Myosotis, in light blue, pink, and white matching the Trans Pride flag.

On a related note, NerdyKeppie is currently running a "Tops and Bottoms" sale to offset some recent medical expenses. The purchase of any qualifying "bottoms" (skirts, leggings, sneakers, or boots) gets the buyer a free unisex heavy cotton t-shirt! (Good through July 6th, does not stack with other offers, no coupon needed.) I'm sure everyone here has already drooled over the collection of really awesome stuff at NerdyKeppie, and it would be completely unnecessary of me to mention that they just got messenger bags added to their available inventory.

Final note, if you ended up getting any of the books, either as a prize or decided to get it yourself now that you know it exists, something really neat to do would be to leave a review of them at Amazon and/or Goodreads. It's the sort of thing that can really help an author out materially; hitting a certain number of reviews on Amazon, even just star ratings, can make a story eligible to be advertised elsewhere on the site, such as in "also-bought" sections. And if you like what you read, the authors featured in this giveaway also have other cool stories to check out!

Thank you so much to everyone who entered the giveaway, and I truly hope to do more of them in the future.

Hi, everyone! I know it's been quiet around here, so I wanted to drop a quick reminder that the first official Queerly Beloved giveaway will be ending tomorrow, when I will draw the winners. Be sure to check out this post for more details, and links to sign up to win a $25 NerdyKeppie gift card, a copy of No Man of Woman Born by Ana Mardoll, or a copy of Knit One, Girl Two by Shira Glassman!

(Special note: Currently, every single person who has entered the K1G2 giveaway is set to win a copy. Yes, there are six people who entered. Yes, this means every single one of them. If up to another, say, five people or so were also to enter, it is entirely likely [read: 100% guaranteed] that I would also buy them a copy. Yes, this is more than I originally said I would give away. One of the reasons I've been busy is extra hours at work, which means I'll also have some extra money to do whatever the heck I want with, and that means possibly giving out more copies of this delightful short story, should anyone prove interested. Just thought I'd mention it.)

I'd also like to mention that the Pride Fanworks Prompt Fest is still going, and there's some really fun prompts and fills available to check out!

Thanks everyone for sticking with this community, and I look forward to notifying the winners of the drawings tomorrow!

Heads up! [tumblr.com profile] vaspider and the NerdyKeppie team (with help from a very generous anonymous sponsor) are giving away eight $20 NerdyKeppie gift cards! Go check out the post for more details!

And now for my boring stuff: I am 100% cool with anyone here entering both the Queerly Beloved giveaway and Spider's, but I do have a tiny request to make; if you happen to win both giveaways, I'd like to give the Queerly Beloved winner a $10 gift card instead, and then draw a second winner from the comm to get a $20 gift card. Does that sound reasonable? I hope it does.

Summary:

Small-batch independent yarn dyer Clara Ziegler is eager to brainstorm new color combinations--if only she could come up with ideas she likes as much as last time! When she sees Danielle Solomon's paintings of Florida wildlife by chance at a neighborhood gallery, she finds her source of inspiration. Outspoken, passionate, and complicated, Danielle herself soon proves even more captivating than her artwork...

Fluffy Jewish f/f contemporary set in the author's childhood home of South Florida.

To enter to win a copy of No Man of Woman Born by Ana Mardoll, read the rules in the Announcement and FAQ post, then leave a comment in this post!

Summary:

Destiny sees what others don’t.

A quiet fisher mourning the loss of xer sister to a cruel dragon. A clever hedge-witch gathering knowledge in a hostile land. A son seeking vengeance for his father's death. A daughter claiming the legacy denied her. A princess laboring under an unbreakable curse. A young resistance fighter questioning everything he's ever known. A little girl willing to battle a dragon for the sake of a wish. These heroes and heroines emerge from adversity into triumph, recognizing they can be more than they ever imagined: chosen ones of destiny.

From the author of the Earthside series and the Rewoven Tales novels, No Man of Woman Born is a collection of seven fantasy stories in which transgender and nonbinary characters subvert and fulfill gendered prophecies. These prophecies recognize and acknowledge each character's gender, even when others do not. Note: No trans or nonbinary characters were killed in the making of this book. Trigger warnings and neopronoun pronunciation guides are provided for each story.

To enter to win a $25 USD gift card to NerdyKeppie, read the rules in the Announcement and FAQ post, then leave a comment in this post!

From the About Us section of NerdyKeppie (Note: The creator who is not Steve now goes by Spider, rather than the name listed in this section of the shop)

If you can't buy it, start making it yourself!

Because we couldn't find the colors and variants of Pride or nerdy kippot that our family wanted, Mandy started making kippot for family members. They focused on making these items sturdy, because a lot of the people they were making them for were very active and we needed them to hold up to everyday wear and tear! This ethos holds true for everything we make - we want our clothing to be ethically sourced, well-made, and as affordable as possible for our community.

When people started asking where they could get these items, the obvious answer was to hang out a shingle and open our shop. 'Keppie' is 'head' in Yiddish, and with my focus on geeky and nerdy items, it was a pretty straightforward name. Everything in here comes from our nerdy heads.

This shop is run by a Jewish family outside of Philly. We hope you'll enjoy what we come up with!

Edit 6/6/19: The NerdyKeppie team is also doing a gift card giveaway! Anyone who enters the giveaway here on Queerly Beloved is welcome to enter [tumblr.com profile] vaspider's as well, but if you happen to win both gift cards, I'd like to give such a winner a $10 gift card instead and draw a second winner for Queerly Beloved and offer them a $20 gift card. I hope that sounds reasonable.

Edit 2 6/21/19: The winner for this giveaway has been chosen! Thank you to everyone who entered, and I really hope to be able to give out more gift cards in the future!

Welp, that took longer than I meant it to. Here we are now, though!

Announcing: Queerly Beloved's June 2019 Giveaway

In celebration of US Pride month, I've decided to hold three giveaways:

* One $25 (USD) gift card for the shop NerdyKeppie
* One copy of No Man of Woman Born by Ana Mardoll, audiobook optional
* Five copies of Knit One, Girl Two by Shira Glassman, Kindle version optional instead

Giveaway Rules:

1) You must be a member of the [community profile] queerly_beloved community
2) Comment on the post of the giveaways you're interested in once each (so if, for whatever reason, you're only interested in K1G2 and No Man of Woman Born, comment on both of those posts, but do not comment on the NerdyKeppie post, for example)
3) You must have a working e-mail you're willing to share with me (preferably via private message, but I'm willing to work with you)
4) Only one entry per person per post
5) I will select the winners via random number generator in the following order: NerdyKeppie gift card, No Man of Woman Born, and then the five K1G2 winners
6) You can enter all three giveaways, but you can only win once; this means that, if you win the gift card but entered in all three drawings, you will be out of the running for both books, and if you win No Man of Woman Born, you will not be eligible to win a copy of Knit One, Girl Two
7) Winners for all three giveaways will be drawn on June 25th, 2019

If you have any questions, please ask them in this post, and I'll do my best to clear things up!

Phew, okay! I've got our community tags up. Or, well, as many as I can think of, at any rate. I'm sure there's a bunch I missed, and fandom tags in particular I'll have to add as we go.

Anyone who wants to is welcome to look over the tag list and request that I add something to it, especially if it's something I missed. This was just everything I could come up with off the top of my head, and while it covers a lot of stuff, I know I'm not perfect and didn't think of everything or everyone. Please also let me know if you spot any spelling mistakes or typos; I'm still not entirely used to the keyboard on my new laptop, which will account for some slipups, but definitely not all of them.

Let's see here, what else. Oh! CW is short for Content Warning, and warns for types of content that people might not want to deal with or, in the case of NSFW (literally: Not Safe For Work), is the type of thing they might get in trouble for having a record of on a work computer. Media is for reviews and shoutouts about various forms of media that have representation of us, good and bad. Everything else should be fairly self-explanatory, I think.

Since Dreamwidth has a tag limit of 1000 for free accounts (1500 for paid, 2000 for premium paid), there may come a time when I have to combine some lesser-used tags in order to preserve some more-used tags. We've still got close to 900 tags to go before reaching the free account limit, though, so I'm pretty sure we'll be okay for a while.

Thanks to everyone who's joined so far, and if you have any feedback, I would be very interested in it!

Edit: It looks like I have tags hidden somehow at the moment? Lemme go take a look around, see how I need to fix that.

Edit 2: Apparently all unused tags were marked as "private" in the tag management thing. There's probably a better way to fix that, but it's late and I'm tired, so my current workaround is: Literally tag this post with every single tag available. (For the record, I tried doing that and then untagging everything, but the tags went right back to being private, so that shortcut is a no-go.)
