With Gumroad up to some questionable stuff recently (rumored interest in NFTs, possible farming of user email addresses to create Twitter accounts, other possible privacy violations), a lot of people who have published through them are choosing to take their works elsewhere. PayHip and itch.io seem to be primary candidates for self-publishing options that aren't Amazon.

Since moving to a new publisher is pretty much always rough, and independent authors tend to have a bit of an uphill battle getting noticed in any case, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give a shout out to some of your favorites! Are any of your favorite self-published creators moving to a different host? Do they already have their work available on a different site? Please, tell us about them in the comments!

I'm sure exactly no one will be surprised that I already have a couple of recs 😉

Shira Glassman (shiraglassman) has a PayHip store set up, with the Knit One, Girl Two collection (includes the title story, as well as "Fearless" and "Your Name is Love"), the Fearless audiobook, and the entire Mangoverse in a single collection up so far! Her works feature a lot of f/f, frequently with at least one bi lady, and lots of Jewish characters and culture.

Joy Demorra (thebibliosphere) also has a PayHip store up; so far she only has the first volume of her novel series Hunger Pangs available, but there's a short story (with spoilers for unpublished volumes) that she has plans to add later. Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites comes in two flavors: Smutty (red cover, "flirting with fangs"), and Sex Repulsed Asexual-friendly (blue cover, "fluff and fangs"); the ace-friendly version has replaced the smutty scenes with different versions of the scenes that have no sex in them. The story is m/m vampire/werewolf steampunk-ish, and will eventually be m/m/f, all three bi and disabled in some way. There's also a bunch of cool background representation for various identities.
