soc_puppet: [Homestuck] God tier "Heart" themed Dreamsheep (Sheep of Heart)
[personal profile] soc_puppet posting in [community profile] queerly_beloved
Inspired by Community Thursdays, I thought it would be fun to do some sort of weekly recommendation roundup! Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend.

I'll start:

Cinder Ella by S. T. Lynn

I got the rec from Tumblr so long ago that I cannot find the post (and may not even have reblogged it), but I just finished rereading Cinder Ella by S. T. Lynn, and it is a super sweet and bubbly book. It’s about a Black, trans woman Cinderella, who falls in love with the (also Black) Princess, and overall it’s just super cute. She also develops a couple of friendships with other girls over the course of the book, and has a really sweet and well trained pet dog named Lady. The way the author fit the fairy godmother character into the book is especially fun, IMO.

Warnings for fatphobia, misgendering, transphobia, and transmisogyny by Ella’s step-family.

Now with sequels: Mer Made (available now, next on my to-read list) and Beauty's Beast (available July 5th).

How about you? Can you recommend something this week? And yes, self-recs are welcome 😉

I recently read a lovely queer book from my local library.

The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite

It was great but the library only has this and the 3rd book. This one is focused on two women one who is an astronomer & one who is a widow & an embroidery artist. It's historical fiction with some misogyny but it had a happy ending & is very cute. I knit but am interested in embroidery and the pieces described in the book are so pretty! Would recommend for wlw historical fiction romance especially if you like astronomy or embroidery.

I recently finished Summer Fun, by Jeanne Thornton, and would highly recommend it. It's a bit of a fever dream of a book in a really good way.

Summary, borrowed from Goodreads:

Gala, a young trans woman, works at a hostel in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. She is obsessed with the Get Happies, the quintessential 1960s Californian band, helmed by its resident genius, B—-. Why did the band stop making music? Why did they never release their rumored album, Summer Fun?

Gala writes letters to B—- that shed light not only on the Get Happies, but paint an extraordinary portrait of Gala. The parallel narratives of B—- and Gala form a dialogue about creation–of music, identity, self, culture, and counterculture.

Wonder City Stories by Jude McLaughlin. It's been on hiatus for a long time, but the first 3 books and some side stories are complete on the journal, and the first 2 books are available as books. Contains multiple queer characters of various descriptions - some would be spoilers - in the first book, and adds more. Also several other types of marginalised representation. The world has the usual -isms, so it's like, what if superpowers but people are still people.
