It's Thursday Recs o'Clock!

This week, I am doing a completely shameless self-rec.

In 2020, as with many things, the anime convention I volunteered with at the time switched from an in-person event to an online only event. To make up a bit for the missed socialization and in-person activity, I decided it would be fun to create a virtual convention Twine game. To avoid copyright problems (and also to keep from making the game to instantly dated), I came up with a bunch of concepts for imaginary anime titles, and convinced a number of my friends (many of them also queer) into helping me come up with more. Then, in 2021, I asked them for help again, and nearly doubled the number of fake anime and manga titles in the game. This year, I split from the convention the game was originally designed for, for reasons I won't go into in this post, and the past couple of weeks, I've been working to remove references to the extant convention and replace them with original concepts.

The result is Anime Twine Con! (Playable in browser.)

There's still more I want to do with the game itself, but for the moment, it stands pretty well as it is. It does a reasonable job of capturing the feeling of going to a convention and deciding how to spend your time (if I do say so myself), while also providing a bunch of different imaginary titles to get to know and become a fake fan of. The comment I get most frequently is that people wish the anime and manga titles my friends and I came up with actually existed! Many of the anime concepts also have a good amount of queer content packed in as well, because that's important to me (and my collaborators).

Anyway! If you have ten or fifteen minutes to spare and you think this sort of thing might be up your alley, please check it out, and I hope you enjoy it!

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!
