Guess who only remembered about Thursday Recs past the time ey needed to go to bed because ey had work in the morning? At least I remembered before bedtime tonight...

Anyway!

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

I just finished a book by a queer woman author: “Where There’s A Will: Hope, Grief, and Endurance in a Race Across a Continent” by Emily Chappell. Queerness isn’t a big theme in it (she only makes brief reference a few times to a romance and it’s clearly another woman), so if you’re looking for Big Queer Love Story then this isn’t it.

But it’s by a queer author, and if you enjoy looking into the struggles and joys of a particular subculture (ultraendurance cycle racing, in this case), this is likely to be up your alley. She’s very good at communicating what it’s like to be on a bike for hundreds of kilometers a day, day after day after day, and the exhaustion and breakdown and exhilaration that comes with that.

CN that “grief” is in the title for a reason - someone very dear to her dies during the time period covered by the book, and the book explores how the death affected her. If reading about someone else going through grief would be too much right now, give this one a pass.

I just finished One Last Stop by Casey McQuinston, and I absolutely loved it. The A plot is a romance, but there are some pretty heavy details in the other plot threads.
