Oh jeez, did I really miss two weeks? I realized I missed last Thursday on last Friday, but I hadn't realized it went farther back than that 🤦‍♀️ You might also think I'd find something to rec in three weeks, but you'd be wrong.

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

I am currently obsessed with Prophet, the "military spy adventure mystery horror sci-fi queer romance thriller" by Sin Blaché and Helen Macdonald (yes, the one who wrote H is for Hawk).

Fandom NEEDS to get on this book: the authors explicitly credit fanfic as an influence (along with Annihilation, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the video game Control), and among other things, it's got a fantastic slow burn queer romance between two deeply compelling, weird, damaged characters. I love them so much.

The book has serious things to say about nostalgia (and its political uses) and loss and yearning, but also the authors decided they were going to put all of the things they loved and enjoyed writing into it because it was lockdown and fuck it, and it's an absolute blast to read.

Both authors use she/they pronouns, according to their Twitter bios; Macdonald is non-binary and I don't know if Blaché has stated how they identify.

Excellent and unspoilery interview with the authors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHauLujY334?si=m3C0UGp0YZCBKKmk

Washington Post: Two Twitter friends wrote a novel together. Then they met face-to-face.
