Phew, made it safely into 2025. Time for our first Thursday Recs of the year!

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

I'd like to rec artist Joe Eason's work! His art series Tales from a Gay Fantasia is a D&D-esque fantasy world featuring queer romance, both f/f and m/m. His pieces generally feature couples in dramatic or evocative poses: a kiss, a battle scene, a hurt/comfort scenario. Very indulgent and wonderful!

Most are SFW, but a few are suggestive/NSFW.

It's not a specifically queer work but there's a lot about gender and sexuality in Unmasking Autism: Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity (and it's by a queer and trans author). It's probably my most important read of 2024 and I'll almost certainly reread it this year. There's a sequel coming out this spring, too.

Thank you for the recommendation! I'm trying to read more non fiction this year. It's available at my library and I was able to out it on hold.

I love nonfiction! Other than the occasional romance novel, it's almost the only (adult) genre I read for leisure. (I read children's literature for work.) I'd be happy to share more of my favorite recommendations if you're interested!

OK, some of my favorites:
Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing - This is the book that got me into nonfiction!

Entangled Life: How fungi make our worlds, change our minds and shape our futures - This book made me want to try LSD. I've never smoked a cigarette or been drunk or high but now I am determined to drop acid before I die.

Saving Time: Discovering Life Beyond the Clock/Discovering Life Beyond Productivity Culture - Other than Unmasking Autism, this was my most important read of 2024. It really made me reconsider my relationship with work as a disabled person.

Wow, I literally got a notification from my library this morning that it's available for pick-up after I put a hold on it weeks ago. Now I'm even more excited to get started on it :)

I just read a very short graphic novel called Bingo Love written by Tee Franklin and art by Jenn St-Onge. It's a f/f love story that spands from 1963 to 2033. The printed version of the book is under 100 pages long. It started as a web comic and some supplemental side stories are online only. It was a nice break from the heavier material I've been reading.
