Cruising by during Aro Awareness Week for another Thursday Recs!

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

I always recommend Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. It is a vampire classic that predates Dracula and actually may have inspired Stoker. It's about a female vampire named Carmilla that sets her sights on the human Laura. It's really good. There are rumblings about whether or not Le Fanu was LGBT himself. We'll never know but it's interesting to think about.

Some may enjoy the overthrow of a monarchy with a lot of direct references to our own society and the corruption of the super-powerful. I read MC as aro-ace. "What We Devour" by Linsey Miller is visceral, as in 'viscera.' There is a lot of self-harm as necessity and incidental, a lot of suffering, and a lot of death. Some as motivation to bring down a kingdom, some in service of destroying a kingdom. There is no happy ending.

But then, those who think "revolution" has a finite date and end have already lost.

The author seems well aware of that.
